Alms lunches in 2025

There are two remaining Alms fund-raiser lunches this summer:  Mexican-themed on July 27, Italian-themed on August 31.

The Asian-themed lunch on June 22 raised about $1300 to support alms projects including charitable gifts of food and items to worthwhile non-profit organizations in need of goods and services.

Duck Creek Village area Photographer and Videographer Patrick Mahler took this beautiful footage of Duck Creek Community Church in Duck Creek Village, the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Duck Creek Village, and the Nativity co-sponsored by DCCC and the Alton Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The young people who staged the Nativity were from the Alton Ward and live goats in a nearby pen, also from Alton, added to the realism. The mountain is a beautiful place full of the Christmas Spirit as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

DCCC ALMS

Supporting community needs.

DCCC Alms gifted more than 100 small trees to senior centers in Cedar City so that they could be given to seniors at Christmas.  Church members contribute various dishes, appetizers, and desserts for fund-raising lunches held during the summer months. No one walks away hungry! Church goers donate $20 per person to enjoy the fabulous lunches. All monies raised help to support this year's projects benefitting seniors, families, and various worthwhile community charitable endeavors. The Alms project is led by DCCC member Cathy Riley and DCCC member and Sunday School Leader Pam Bugbee.

Obituary

Duck Creek Community Church sends its deepest sympathies to Ruth Leonard and family. Jerry and Ruth have contributed so much to the building and congregation of Duck Creek Community Church during all their years as members. The congregation and his friends on the mounain will forever remember Jerry as a warm-hearted and loving man who encouraged others and served as a wonderful Christian role model to everyone he met. Jerry was a member of the DCCC Old Geezers Guitar Group and served as the group's teacher when Leader Bob Diaz couldn't be there. Jerry and his wife Ruth are charter members of DCCC and started attending the church during its early formation, during the summer of 2003. Woodworking was Jerry's hobby, so helping to build DCCC was a joyous time for him. Ruth says, "He was so happy that we were going to have a church in Duck Creek."  Information on the Memorial Service to be held for Jerry at Duck Creek Community Church this spring or summer will be posted at a later date.

Jerry Junior Leonard, 82, passed away on April 25, 2023 in St. George, UT. Jerry was born on May 10, 1940 in Windsor, MO to Harold Alexander and Oleta Lucille Birchfield Leonard. His family moved to Stratford, TX and again to Oakdale, CA, where Jerry graduated from high school and attended college for a year. He left college to join the United States Air Force, and was soon stationed in Germany, and later at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jerry worked with a moving and storage company which he bought out and ran for over forty years, and was affiliated with Atlas Van Lines. He worked hard and received the Small Business Person of the Year Award for the State of Nevada in 1985. He was also a talented woodworker that shared his gift with everyone, including making toys for Toys for Tots. He also helped build a church in Duck Creek, UT. He was a big supporter of the Salvation Army. He married the love of his life, Ruth, on April 26, 2003 and they shared many adventures. They took their motorhome around the States and cruised around the world. He was a man of immense faith and loved God.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Ruth Leonard; his children, Trena (Rick) Zamito and Tessa (Kurt) Sievertson; step-son, Scott Blockland; twelve grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Oleta Leonard; children, Troy Leonard and Tracy Clark; and brother, Gary Dean Leonard.
