In Memory of Tom Smith

Thomas Alfred Smith, age 80, of Celina, Texas, and Hatch, Utah, passed away September 26, 2022.  Tom and Marcie Smith are founding members of Duck Creek Community Church and spent many hours helping to build Duck Creek Community Church, working with Founding Pastor Steve Altig and his wife Bonnie on the massive project of designing and constructing our little church in the meadow. Tom made the beautiful log chairs in the DCCC foyer and sanctuary. He helped to start the DCCC Fly Fishing Club and was a member of the DCCC Old Geezers Guitar Club, led by Bob Diaz, that played at Sunday services now and then. He and Marcie spent summers in Utah and attended DCCC in the warmer months but had to leave in September this year and head back to Texas to be with family when Tom suddenly experienced health issues. 

Thomas was born October 20, 1941, in Tulare, California, to Warren G. and Donna Mae (Pierce) Smith.  He married Margaret Lamar Duke on April 7, 1958, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Thomas was an operating engineer in the construction industry.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Smith of Celina, Texas; daughter, Suzi Monzingo and husband, Mike, also of Celina; son, Ken Smith and wife, Lindy of Trego, Montana; grandchildren, Jennifer Vann and husband, Charles, Ashley Smith, Brian Monzingo and wife, Sara, Tori Smith, and Savannah Smith; great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Vann, Annabeth Monzingo, and Kairo Smith; and sisters, Sandy Utterback and husband, Joe and Debra Dahl and husband, Jeff.

A funeral service was held  at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 109 S. Oklahoma St., Celina, Texas, 75009.  Interment followed at Cottage Hill Cemetery in Celina, Texas.
